Paradise on Saint Martin
A Day at Kazanu: Paradise on Saint Martin
Imagine waking up to the soothing sound of tropical bananaquit birds as the Caribbean sun streams through your window. For Penny and I, this is how every day begins at Kazanu, a peaceful oasis on Saint Martin that feels like a slice of paradise. The warmth of the tropics greets us as we sip fresh Nespresso coffee by the pool, starting the day in true island style.
Morning Bliss by the Pool
The morning routine at Kazanu is pure relaxation. I brew a fresh cups of coffee in our suite’s fully equipped kitchen, then we step out onto the pool deck. Whether basking in the sunshine from a lounge chair or seeking shade under one of the large umbrellas, the poolside ambiance sets the perfect tone for the day. A refreshing swim in the sparkling water is often part of the ritual before we prepare breakfast.
The convenience of Kazanu’s in-suite kitchens means we can whip up a delicious breakfast and enjoy it on our private lanai. For days when we want a treat, we stroll down the street to Bread and Butter for fresh croissants or head to L’Escale Sxm for a full sit-down breakfast. Either way, the morning is always relaxed and delicious.
Exploring Saint Martin’s Beaches
After breakfast, it’s time to decide—stay and unwind at Kazanu or head out to explore the island’s stunning naturist beaches. Saint Martin offers an abundance of choices:
- Orient Beach, with its lively atmosphere & unique nude Perch Bar dining.
- The peaceful shores of Happy Bay.
- The golden sands of Baie Rouge and Baie Longue.
- The dramatic cliffs of Cupecoy Beach.
If adventure calls, we might even take a day trip to the north side of Pinel Island, where calm waters and the island vibes at Karibuni create the ultimate getaway. On the way, we often combine beach visits with a grocery stop for fresh ingredients to enjoy later at Kazanu. I almost forgot to mention a naked day on the water with a nude sailing adventure. Clothing Optional Afternoons
Many days, though, we choose to stay put, soaking in the tranquility of Kazanu’s pool deck. Under the shade of an umbrella, we read, chat, play games and plan dinner. The upper pool deck, complete with a grill, is perfect for barbecuing fresh local ingredients while enjoying the tropical breeze and the amazing ocean view. The tropical plants and foliage around the property and pool make a beautiful backdrop for photography and did I mention the three resident turtles…
Evening Adventures and Sunset Magic
Evenings are as flexible as the day. If we’ve spent the day at Baie Rouge, Baie Longue, or Cupecoy, we might wrap it up with a parking lot shower (a quirky tradition explained by our friend David Clarke), followed by sunset drinks at Dany’s Beach Bar. Staying for a lemon liquor toast courtesy of the “Lemon Droppers” is also a highlight.
Dinner could mean a visit to one of our favorite restaurants in Porto Cupecoy or Simpson Bay, where the cuisine and ambiance always deliver. On days when we’ve spent time at Happy Bay or Orient Beach, we often return to Kazanu for a grilled meal by the pool or dinner at a local restaurant in Oyster Pond.
The Perfect Ending
No matter how we spend the day, evenings at Kazanu always end on a serene note. A night time swim under the stars and meaningful conversations with friends create the perfect close. The peaceful atmosphere ensures a restful sleep, ready to do it all over again the next day.
Kazanu is more than just a place to stay—it’s the heart of our Saint Martin adventures. Whether exploring the island or simply soaking in its beauty from the pool deck, every day here is a dream. For Penny and I, it’s our perfect Caribbean escape.
